Evaristo Akerele, MD, MPH, DFAPA

Dr. Akerele received his Bachelor of Science with Honors in Bio/chemistry from the University of London, England, Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Cluj Napoca, Romania, and Masters in Public Health Policy and Management from Columbia University, New York. He completed his General Psychiatry training at Harlem hospital, Columbia University. He trained as a research fellow in Addiction Psychiatry at Columbia University and later served as Co-director of the Substance Abuse Research Fellowship program there.  He has served as Associate Director of Psychiatry and Director of Residency Training at Harlem Hospital, Columbia University. As Vice President and Medical Director for Phoenix House he was responsible for the medical management of over 3000 patients.  He was Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Director of the Substance Abuse Fellowship Program at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. Dr. Evaristo Akerele also served as the Network Director for the North Brooklyn Health Network for Substance Abuse Services. He is an accomplished researcher, educator, administrator and clinician. He has published several papers and received state and federal grants. He is a nationally and internationally recognized expert in the field of Addiction Psychiatry. He has worked closely with the United Nations to train staff globally on Mental Health and Addiction issues.
